Minecraft Mods
Minecraft mods – discovering new worlds
Why do kids keep asking about mods?
Almost every child who's been to one of our workshops asks at some point: "How do I install mods in Minecraft?" No wonder – mods (modifications) add an incredible number of new features and possibilities to Minecraft. Instead of just placing blocks, you can suddenly build rockets, explore new dimensions, or construct complex machines.
What you need for mods
1. The right Minecraft version
You need the Java Edition of Minecraft (not the Bedrock version!)
Costs a one-time fee of about €30
Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux
2. A suitable computer
The computer shouldn't be too old (5–6 years max.)
At least 4 GB RAM, 8 GB is better
A reasonably modern graphics card helps a lot
Tip: it usually runs better on the family PC than on an old laptop
3. The right tool: ATLauncher
Installing mods by hand can test your patience. Luckily, there's ATLauncher – a free tool that does all the work for you:
Download at: atlauncher.com/downloads
Completely free and safe
Installs mods automatically with one click
Manages different mod collections (modpacks)
Our mod recommendation: Galacticraft
Why Galacticraft is so brilliant
With LAPITO'S GALACTICRAFT MODPACK, Minecraft becomes a space adventure:
Build your own rocket from raw materials to launch
Learn real concepts along the way: how is rocket fuel made? What do you need for a moon base?
Explore our solar system – from the Moon to Mars
More info: micdoodle8.com/mods/galacticraft
Perfect as a family project
Galacticraft is complex – not for Minecraft beginners. But as a joint project with mom or dad? Perfect! Together you can:
Plan and build your first rocket
Land on the Moon together
Build a base and produce oxygen
Explore new planets

Installation step by step
Buy and install Minecraft Java Edition (if you don't have it already)
Download and install ATLauncher
Search for your desired modpack in ATLauncher
Click "Install" and wait
Done! The modpack starts automatically with all mods
Important tips for parents
Improving performance
Install OptiFine for better graphics performance
Reduce the render distance in the settings
Close other programs while playing
Safety
Only download mods via ATLauncher or other trustworthy sources
Never install mods from unknown websites
Back up your worlds regularly
Playing together
Set up a local server (ATLauncher helps with this)
That way siblings can play together
Or parents and kids can build together
Our philosophy
"If the kids are going to play on the computer anyway, at least let them learn something in the process!"
Minecraft with mods is more than just a game:
Kids learn logical thinking while building complex systems
They understand technical concepts in a playful way
Creativity and problem-solving are encouraged
Shared projects bring families closer together

Note: Minecraft mods are a great addition, but not a must. Regular Minecraft already offers endless possibilities. Mods are more suited to kids aged 10 and up who already have Minecraft experience.
